Enjoy this City to the Sea bike trail that follows the Pacific Coast Railroad right-of-way along the San Luis Obispo Creek to Avila Beach. Starts at the parking lot right off the 101 freeway and ends at the beach/promenade in downtown Avila Beach. This trail is great for walking, skating, biking, etc. The trail will take you through lush landscapes and gardens and follows a meandering stream.
If you don't have your own bike or you just don't want to bring it, make sure you check out the Avila Hot Springs (start of the trail) and Wally's Bike Rental (end of the trail in the Landing Building in downtown Avila) for beach cruiser & bike rentals. Also check out the Woodstone Market & Deli on the trail for food, wine and snacks.
Start of the Trail - A parking area is available at the trail head.
Exit US101 at Avila Beach and head west. Turn right on Ontario Rd (Avila Hot Springs). Go past the KOA campground and you will see a parking lot off to the right. The trail starts right across the street. Remember to lock your car and don’t leave any valuables inside.
End of the Trail – Downtown Avila Beach.
Use these directions to get into Avila. The trail ends on the corner of Avila Beach Dr & 1st Street. Use the new traffic light for a safer crossing into downtown.
The Bob Jones Trail is already a great relaxing trail. There is a lot in store for this trail. They are just about to start work to extend the trail from Avila into Port San Luis Harbor. There are also plans extend the start to SLO and the end all the way to Montana De Oro State Park.
