Along with the famous Bob Jones Trail and the Docent led hike to the Point San Luis Lighthouse, the Avila Valley is home to few other trails. They are not paved like the Bob Jones and they are more rugged. However, they offer some pretty amazing views of Avila/Port , Shell Beach, and the coast down to pismo beach.
Sycamore Crest Trail
The Sycamore Crest Trail started at the Sycamore Mineral Springs Resort and goes up Ontario hill and connects to the Ontario Ridge Trail at the top. It offers amazing views at the top and is about 1.7 miles round trip. It’s a free hike and dogs are welcome. More info on hikespeak.com Cave Landing (Pirate's Cave) The cave landing trail starts at the big dirt parking lot for Pirates Cove. Take the south single trail down and stay to the right for the cave and left for Pirates Cove. It’s about a half mile round trip. More info on hikespeak.com Shell Beach Bluff Trail - Ontario Ridge Trail Loop This trail has two starting points and also connects to the Sycamore Crest Trail. You can use the Shell Beach Drive Trailhead in Shell Beach or from the Pirates Cove dirt parking lot. It’s about 3 miles long and runs in a big loop.
